Redefining happiness for yourself

If you look up the definition of happiness, it’s simple: “A state of well-being and contentment.” But how do we get to that state or how do we be in that state? Praphanit Doowa reported on Choose Love UW and its event, "Redefining Happiness." In a crowd of over 30 people consisting of students, faculty, and family members, three speakers were invited to partake in a critical conversation about what it means to be happy.

For women in science, the challenges are personal

Females face gender discrimination in their pursuit of STEM careers. It could be due to what subjects they were exposed to as a student and how early they are exposed to it, or because they are afraid to pursue a field that is considered to be "masculine." Praphanit Doowa reported about various women currently pursuing STEM and about their journey to becoming involved in their respective field. The challenges they have faced along with their thoughts about how to combat the discrimination is also discussed. This article led to Praphanit Doowa's podcast series on Women in STEM for the UW Daily.

Thai people worldwide saddened by death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej

Thais from all over the world woke up to the most devastating and heartbreaking news — the loss of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Praphanit Doowa broke the news story for the Seattle Globalist on Thailand in its greatest sorrow after losing its valuable and beloved King, who also was the world’s longest-reigning monarch at age 88, after a long illness.

The Pokemon Go autopsy: It got people outside

The Pokemon Go craze took hold of the world last July. Children in Sweden, parents in Bangkok, college students in Seattle. Everyone was intrigued and captivated by the location-based, augmented reality game played on a cell phone. Praphanit Doowa reported about a research study that found that parents who regularly play Pokemon Go with their children spend more time outdoors, exercise more and have more family bonding time.

Joe Chocolate’s bits of buzz

Seattle is a hub for coffee and chocolate. Whether people like one, the other, or both, the two bring joy and energy to many. Praphanit Doowa reported on Peter Keckemet and Sam Tanner, CEO's of Joe Chocolates, who saw an opportunity to create a product to bring the best of both worlds together by integrating two fine ingredients to fashion a new, on-the-go energy booster that everyone would enjoy.

Thirteen of the West Coast’s finest student entrepreneur teams attended the West Coast Regional Tigerlaunch Entrepreneurship Competition hoping to earn a top-five spot to advance to the national competition at Princeton University. Praphanit Doowa reported on all 13 startup teams, five of which were awarded the opportunity to potentially have their ideas turned into a reality.

Praphanit Doowa reported on how Recurrence Inc.’s goal is to remake the education system by transforming tedious classroom content into thought-provoking and engaging games where students will be encouraged to think for themselves.

Three years ago, corporate interests intent on defeating a state initiative to require labeling of GMO grocery products resorted to tactics that recently brought the largest penalty in U.S. history for campaign finance violations. Even so, the initiative almost passed. Praphanit Doowa reported on how there's no prospect for another try in Washington state: Congress — largely acting at the behest of chemical and food companies and agricultural interests — passed a law forbidding any state or local regulation of labeling for genetically engineered ingredients.

Despite the duo's varying personalities and quirks, the two have managed to find repeated success together on  the court.

Praphanit Doowa reported on many people, among them was senior Zak Hussain, who not only feels embarrassed to call himself an American after the election but who also questioned how he, for so long, wanted to be considered one.

From sporting success to a family tragedy, Nualphan Lamsam’s cool head and belief in destiny see her through. Praphanit Doowa produced her first magazine cover on Lamsam, who is the president and CEO of the family business, Muang Thai Insurance, Thai distributor for Hermès, and manager of the national women’s football team.
